A Yummy Pulled Pork Primer

As promised, here’s Joey’s dad’s recipe for his heavenly Barbecued Pulled Pork Sandwiches:

2½ lbs. pork roast
1-14oz. bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce
1 tsp. brown sugar
1 Tbs. fresh lemon juice
1 medium onion, chopped
8 hamburger buns or hard rolls

Place the pork roast in a slow cooker. Cover; cook on Low 10 to 12 hours (or on High for 5 to 6 hours). Remove the pork roast from the stoneware, and pull the meat into shredded pieces. Pour out any liquid in the stoneware, and combine the pork with the remaining ingredients in the slow cooker. Cook on High for 2 hours. Serve the barbecue pork on hamburger buns or hard rolls. Makes 8 servings.

Since I always insist that my cookbooks have lots and lots of photos, (what can I say…I’m a visual learner), here’s what the pulled pork (a doubled recipe) should look like when it’s done correctly:

Happy eating everyone!

Looks like now you have something to make in your slow cooker.

so you put just the roast in for the first part? I've never used my slow cooker w/o adding some sort of sauce or water. LOL maybe that's why it cooks so much quicker.

I'll have to try it like that.

Usually I toss a pork roast in the slow cooker and cover it with bbq sauce...then we slice it.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't know if the patience to slow cook anything. My stove only has the high setting...I'll tell the Mister this is his domain, since it qualifies as BBQ : ). Looks yummy!

By the way...did your slow cooker ever make it out of the box?

sure sounds like a lot of work and time to me. Pork sandwiches haven't been my favorite. I was always a tri-tip person and sometimes I still miss it when the Lodge makes their famous sandwiches.

Yummy, it looks as good as I thought it would, now I want a taste of it! Do you deliver?

Joan, this sounds delicious. Once we did pork tenderloin in the cooker, but we did not let it go that long. I'd like to try it soon, as this cooker will not heat up the kitchen in the summer. I'd like to serve it on sliced lengthways plank bread or Portuguese roll. Any ideas about a homemade BBQ sauce?
