What started me on this crazy quest was playing golf at the beach last fall. No matter how much hair spray I used or what hat I wore, the humidity just made my short layered hair a miserable mess. Then Rick would want to go out for lunch after our golf round and I'd be embarrassed to be seen in public with a wavy mess on top of my head.
So, as I sat in my hair stylist's chair in October, I mentioned that I'd like to let my hair grow out. I could see her eyebrows arch in disbelief but she agreed to help me meet my goal. Each haircut since, she's been trimming the ends trying to shape it without taking off too much length. So after 4 months, I thought I'd share my hair journey with you.

While the back is coming along nicely, I've been fighting my bangs every day. No matter how I style them to the side in the morning, they end up down in front of my eyes blocking my view. I've been using headbands, which make me look like Alice in Wonderland and give me headaches, and the amount of hair spray I'm using is surely burning my very own hole in the ozone.
In hopes of finding some solace out there in BlogLand, here's my question for you. Have you ever tried to grow out a short hair style and, if so, were you actually successful or did you throw in the towel and cut it all off???

Your hair must grow really fast. That's a lot of growth for 4 months.
I don't have any advice on growing out bangs. I've tried a couple of times, only to pull out the scissors and razor and cut it myself. Maybe a barrette or hair clip to hold the hair out of your eyes?
I would recognize that back anywhere. I still can't believe you with long hair. It's been a long time.
I was just trying to find the name of the headbands that DD & I used when we were growing out our bangs...they worked really well and didn't give us headaches. The top part is zig-zagged and then at the ends there are tiny combs to hold it in place. I'll keep trying to figure out who makes them for you. i also like the StayPut line by Goodie.
Congrats on your hair, I hope it turns out the way you want it.
Wow! What a difference! I think it looks great!
My bangs are a constant source of flux and frustration for me as they grow way too fast and then when I trim them I do a horrible job but just as I have to have bangs, I can't have them in my face either. I am afraid I've got no answers for ya there at all!
I have used simple clips to keep my bangs out of my face while growing them out. Having a few choice colors and a few with a little more personality to them can help in coordinating with outfits. Bobby pins are great - and you can potentially hide them under other hair.
Hope this helps, and I must agree with everyone else - that is a lot of growth in 4 months - you sure are lucky!
I always cut it....myself... because few stylists know how to cut curly hair. I successfully grew my bangs out and used little loosely attached clips, there are really cute decorative bobby pins and those little hinged things to keep the annoyance factor to a minimum.
I try to let my hair grow out every now and then, but when it reaches a certain length, I just have to get it cut.
