Is it 2008 Yet?

I wouldn't know. Last night, we went out for an early dinner (garlic chicken and mashed potatoes, yum), came home and watched a DVD movie, and then Rick announced it was time to go to bed (at 10:00PM). So we toodled off to bed (without sipping our phony champagne first), turned off the light and then listened for quite some time to the fierce winds before actually going to sleep. Somehow we managed to miss watching the ball go down in Times Square this year...sigh. This morning I've poured myself a cup of coffee and retrieved the newspaper from our driveway but have yet to read it so I still haven't seen anything that actually declares it to be 2008 but I'm thinking it must be the new year.

I'm up early this morning so I can bake a Butterscotch Pumpkin Cake to take to our friends' New Year's Day brunch later today. They live fairly close to Pasadena and we will need to take a freeway that skirts the area of the Rose Bowl so I'm sure we'll run into lots of traffic. I will try and watch the Rose Parade on TV although each year I seem to be less and less interested. I should point out that many, many, many years ago Lynn, Ina and I actually were amongst the crazy people who sleep out overnight on the sidewalks of Pasadena to get a curbside view of the parade. It was the coldest night of the year and all I can remember is standing in a very long line at a gas station to use the one restroom in the area. I think the floats were beautiful but, to be honest, I really don't remember much...I think I've banished that "adventure" from my brain.

Anyway, I hope you have a fun-filled New Year's Day and that 2008 turns out to be a terrific year for you all.

Yes it is indeed 2008.
In 1960 my boyfriend (now my husband) and I slept on Colorado Blvd to be in front row for the Rose parade. It was cold! Everyone should do that once, but twice would be silly.

I agree with Casdok and hrh ~ that butterscotch pumpkin cake sounds delicious.
At the moment I'm baking "Cookies for Santa," as the label on the Mason jar says.

Better late than never ~ Or nice and early for 51 weeks from now!

Happy New Year!

Oh geeze, it was hard to read the rest of the post after the paragraph of "butterscotch pumpkin cake". All I could think about was the darn cake... I wish I was on the same route as your friend's New Year's Day brunch...
Oh well.... I hope you had a nice day! :D
Happy New Year Joan!

Butterscotch pumpkin cake?? Really?? You have GOT to give us the recipe as that just sounds heavenly!

Hope that you officially have a grand 2008 once you decide that it's officially started! And if you want to put it off a little longer, that's okay by me, too, but I actually wrote my very first check today and remembered to write '08 instead of '07. I bet I screw it up at some point, though!

You may line up for the leftovers by the kitchen island, bring Rick too. We have roasted turkey, mashed potatoes (made with my new food mill...came out perfect!) gravy of course and veggies. I also have a bunch of salad. I should find a good creamed spinach recipe to cook up all the spinach I bought and didn't serve. LOL!

That cake sounds yummy! I see nothing wrong with a quiet New Year's Eve. I stayed home on the computer and folded laundry.
