The Fun Continues

Here I am hiding out in front of my computer with the den door closed trying to make myself scarce as our new deck construction begins (see here for the prologue). Hubby, Friend and Friend's Brother are in the backyard banging and hammering and drilling away and I just don't want to watch. The guys arrived at 12:30PM (only 2 hours later than promised) and immediately took off for the hardware store to buy additional supplies. They've now been at the actual construction for a few hours and, as always, there have been a few unexpected obstacles to overcome. One obstacle may be the weather. We've been following it all week and the forecast for the next few days was for sunny to partly cloudy days. So why are there really ominous dark clouds in the sky right now and why does it feel like rain is on the way?

Here's an update already...the guys just left to go pick up their table saw. That should take an hour. Why do I think this project is slowly morphing into an epic tale?

Maybe they just want the project to look harder than it is so that you will have a greater appreciation for it once it is complete.

It's meant to be, Joan. This way you will have a continuing saga to blog about and for us to read about.

It seems like every project takes longer then you expect it will but it will be worth it in the end. I'm starting a small project tomorrow, I'm having our sunporch winterized so that we can use it year round. I need to go look at propane stoves tomorrow before my carpenter gets here. My new cats LOVE it out there because they can watch the birds and squirrels but can only be out there when the sun is shining to warm it up.

Lynn: Believe me, I already have an appreciation...trust me...they don't need to impress me.

Patti: I'm hoping there are other things in my life far more interesting than a new deck.

Midlife mom: I wish you luck on your small project. The term "small" was used to describe mine originally! ;-)

Hang in there Joan. Only two more weeks until construction will be complete.

Patches: Your two week prediction is beginning to look overly optimistic. :-)

Oh my! They've got 3 men on this job. Do you want to give them a hard time and mention that you know someone who managed to do a much bigger deck project with one man and two teenagers, in just one weekend???

I forget how big it actually ended up being, but it was huge and had benches on most of the sides. It came out really beautiful too.

Renee: Wow...I'm impressed. Your deck project sounds beautiful. Do you rent out your team? Actually we only have 2 men on the job...Hubby will readily admit he's useless at construction.

Sometimes these projects almost take on a life of their own. I know that from our remodeling experience..
Hope your weather stays good!
