Once In A While Doesn't Hurt

It's a beautifully warm sunny day outside but I'm still here in my pajamas trying to wake up.

We had a late night yesterday going out to dinner for my friend JAM's birthday. Her daughter was kind enough to take a few of us out to a well-known steakhouse in Beverly Hills. It's the kind of place you might see famous celebrities and last night was no different. Just after being seated at our table, who should walk in but Terry Bradshaw and Jimmie Johnson. Now I may not know a whole lot about football but I had no problem recognizing these two. There may have been other famous folk there but the place was so dark (and the noise level so high) that we weren't able to see or hear much past our table.

Back to dinner. Now I'm not a red meat eater due to health issues. On occasion, however, I will break that rule if it's worth risking a little for a really good cut of meat. Such was the case last night. The menu was filled with all sorts of choices and I decided to overlook the chicken and fish dishes. When at a steakhouse...eat meat!!!

While Rick ordered the Chef's Cut Ribeye Chop (a 33 oz. ribeye steak), three of us ordered the prime rib. When our dishes were delivered to the table, we all nearly fainted. The piece of meat on the plate was huge...I mean really, really huge. The three us realized we should have ordered just one and split it. Not caring how gauche it looked, I immediately whipped out my cell phone camera and took a photo.

Trust me...the photo doesn't do it justice and I had a hard time getting the entire piece of meat in one shot...that's how large it was!!! Mind you...the prime rib was not the only thing to eat. We'd all ordered huge salads to start and then Rick and I shared two side dishes (creamed spinach and wasabi mashed potatoes). Everything was yummy but who can finish such large portions?!?!?

So this morning there are several packages of leftovers in my refrigerator. I ate only a small portion of the prime rib last night so there's a huge piece of meat plus we took home most of our two side dishes. Guess what we're having for dinner after church this evening.

I'm a regular carnivore, but I must admit it's hard for me to comprehend a 33oz rib eye.

If you going to cheat, you might as well make it worth your effort.

Oh my! That is some big piece of meat! I'd have to have them cook it for another ten minutes to get the red out! I like it well done when I do eat meat. Nice to have your dinner all ready for you in the refrigerator.

Sorry about your tooth but how lucky to get right in with your dentist. I would rather have a beating then have a tooth drilled, just really weird about that. Oh I should have put that on my Weird Meme that I just did yesterday!

Beverly Hills eh? I have never been there but would like to some time. Was at Disney Land, don't know if that is close to there or not. Also Knotts Berry Farm. My aunt used to work there in the antique shop.

A bit unnerving to have a police car come screeching up behind you I would think!! We had that happen once here in Maine and the officer jumped out and pulled a man out of a van and threw him to the ground and had his gun drawn. I was trying to find my camera but didn't have time. Rats!

OMG, that meat looks delicious! I don't think I've ever seen a piece that big! And Rick had a 33 oz ribeye - 33 oz?? That's huge!

BTW, a while ago I did a post on my blog about books by Ginnie Siena Bivona - TALES FROM A CHAMELEON and IDA MAE TUTWEILER AND THE TRAVELING TEA PARTY.

I just heard from Ginnie and she has copies of Ida Mae available for $10 and also copies of CHAMELEON.

If you're interested in either or both, you can contact Ginnie at

Tell her I sent you!

Was the restaurant to 'hoity toity' to actually cook the food? That looks like one huge piece of uncooked meat to me.

That's a big chunk of meat! I think that's about how much I made for the 5 of us when my Mom was here. LOL!

I love it when dinner is covered though. I like leftovers...yummm! And the spinach sounds great! Never had the Wasabi potatoes, but I'm sure they're yummy too.

When DH & I go out we usually split an 8 oz prime rib...but for my birthday we had a free one, so we shared it with DD instead...we were all stuffed and then they brought the cake...ooff!

Wow! I'm sure you will enjoy the prime rib the second time. That is huge.

The boys couldn't get over how large the servings are in the US, compared to Ontario. They love Cracker Barrel and we ate several mornings at Golden Corral. Jordan loved it because it was a breakfast buffet and he could chose what he wanted.

Thanks for sharing your lovely evening. I enjoyed reading about it.

Blessings,
Mary

33 ounces as in over 2 pounds of meat? Ay carumba! That sounds absolutely wonderful and to hecks with the side dishes! I admit to being a big red meat fan though I don't eat it that often. I would prefer mine to not still be moo'ing though!

I am only guessing but I think you probably went to the famous steak house where the football players go before the Rose Bowl Game and the name begins with "L". If so, once upon a time, it used to be my favorite steak house too....sigh...sigh...I miss steak!!!
