The Other Side of Disneyland

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I spent Monday at Disneyland with two friends from work. The park is now decorated for Christmas and everything seemed so festive and magical. Here's a sampling:

Now normally I go to "The Magic Kingdom" with Lynn and my niece and nephew and, when we go, we spend nearly the entire day moving from one ride to another. We traverse the park with the intent of riding on all the major attractions (Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, the Matterhorn, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean to name just a few) as well as some of the smaller ones. We are always on the move.

It's amazing what a different experience it is when you visit the park with adults only. On Monday, I was introduced to exhibits and attractions I never knew existed thanks to one of my friends. We visited a sourdough bakery exhibit where we watched them bake sourdough bread and had an opportunity to enjoy a few samples. We also saw an exhibit by one of the leading tortilla making companies and got to sample a fresh tortilla...yum.

When our feet needed a rest, we sat in one of the theaters and viewed a film, starring Whoopi Goldberg, on the history of California. And, of course, we spent a lot more time, than I do when I'm with the kids, in the various shops . The three of us wandered into a number of stores throughout the park and then ambled from one shop to another down Main Street. What fun! Oh...and we did experience many of the less "violent" rides...no roller coasters or other wild and crazy rides for us.

So Monday was a completely different Disneyland experience for me and it was a wonderful treat. But don't worry...when I want the thrill of a roller coaster (which is often), I always have my niece and nephew to keep me company!

Dom and I went to Disney World a couple of years ago - our first time! I was thrilled with the different attractions that weren't just for kids. We spent just a little bit of time at Epcot for a Christmas concert, but I'd love to go back to visit all the exhibits.

I have to agree with you that the park is totally different when you do it as an adult. We've still got a few years to go before we can enjoy it that way again. But for now all the rides are fun.

When we go with our family, Bill and I usually take an afternoon "just for us" and do this type of thing. Of course, while we're shopping, I'm finding all sorts of cute things for the ones who are off riding the rides!

Disney decorated for Christmas must be breathtakingly beautiful to see in person...I want to goooo!!! Isn't if funny how different it is when you go visit such a park without kids? When my friend Steve and I went to visit Santa's Village this past summer, it felt so strange not having any kids with us! lol xox

There's a sourdough bakery and a place that makes tortillas, and Whoopi Goldberg speaks on the history of California??? Are you kidding me? For all of the times we've been to Disneyland...I've never heard of any of them.

You'll have to tell me where these places are located so that I can try to 'find' them when I take Ten for his birthday.

I haven't been to D/Land in decades. I used to love the teacups....and shopping. My son and his family get year round tickets and usually go several times a month but they have 2 small children.

Joan,

I have never been to Disneyland, but have been to Disney World a few times. I took my daughter when she was 9 and 11. We went again when she was about 14 and took my mother and my nieces. Then my hubby and I visited alone in 1992. In January 2004, hubby and I took our two grandsons and Mom. We are taking the grandsons again this year after Christmas.

I'm kind of tired of going to Florida, but of course I'm out voted by hubby and the boys. I'm sure I'll enjoy it but 3 days driving each way with two boys in the van who love to pester one another scares me. LOL

I'm glad you enjoyed visiting Disneyland with your friend and seeing a completely different side of it.

Blessings,
Mary
