The Blogging Blahs

I seem to be experiencing one of those times when my brain just does not want to engage in any useful activity…particularly blogging. When I reach one of these annoying dry spells when creativity is nowhere to be found, I get cranky and exceedingly frustrated. Why can’t I be like other bloggers who never seem to be at a loss for something brilliant or at least interesting to share? Why do these folks always have a story to tell, an opinion to voice or a photo to share while I sit here with an invisible “Space For Rent” sign on my forehead?

This morning, desperate for something to write about, I carefully read the newspaper trying to find even the smallest article to comment on. OK…so today must be a really, really slow news day because nothing jumped off the page at me. Oh, I was thinking about discussing the guest list for the formal state dinner President and Mrs. Bush threw for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip last night but what is there really to say about a group of politicos plus obvious Republican supporters who get to dine with royalty? Of course, there were a few names that surprised me. Can anyone explain to me why NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, former golfing great Arnold Palmer and CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz were there? Is the Queen a closet American football (yes, not soccer) fan? Does the Queen play or watch golf in her spare time? Geez…I watch football (on occasion)…I play golf (on a very rare occasion)…I watch Jim Nantz on TV (when a golf tournament is televised). Why wasn’t I invited?

See…I told you there’s just nothing going on in my life right now that’s interesting enough to write about.

I agree. It was fun to read Joan. Keep on blogging! And don't worry about the topic.
Goodness knows I don't.

I am going through the same thing right now. I ripped todays post off an e-mail my cousin sent me. See how desperate I am?? I think most of my 'stories' came from school. Maybe I should go back...

At least you read the paper today...and now, I don't have to since you've already said there is nothing interesting to be found there ;~)

I kept waiting for my invitation to the ball but it must have gotten lost in the mail. As a former loyal subject of her Majesty who has dual citizenship, I
figured I qualified for an invitation on both the Canadian and American sides. Alas, no invitation arrived.

Good thing though, my tiara is out for polishing, I had to lend my very best dress to Cinderella and since I lost the weight, my glass slippers are waaay too big.

I am feeling the same! Must be something in the air.

Rhea: I'm persistent if nothing else.

Patti: I always enjoy what you have to say...honest!

Toni: I guess we all have our dry spells...mine always seem so obvious.

Lynn: Glad I could save you a few minutes!!!

Only oldest: Are you sure it wasnt you I saw sitting next to Prince Philip in the news photos???

Dana: Wow...now I'm beginning to realize I might not be alone in this brain freeze and that makes me feel relieved.

Empress bee: Thanks! I tried the hopping around solution but even that failed me this time. I've been so relieved lately that people tagged me because it saved me the angst of actually thinking up something clever. :~)

Hi Joan - My head is empty a LOT lately, but I think it's just because we have so much going on. (It's going to be nutso at our house until the middle of June.)

I enjoyed your post, whether you think you had anything to say or not!

Oh, and about the guest list for the dinner with the queen, where was Sanjaya??

I think brilliant blog posts are overrated, as you can probably tell.

You did just fine.

Ah Joan, relax with the content...the old cliche, 'Quality, not quantity' applies here...you have many interesting things to talk about, so why worry about even writing every day...you have written good content :>) A white tie state dinner? If I was asked to attend, I wouldn't wonder why I was invited...I'd even learn to curtsey if it was requires (a trick in a wheelchair, for sure...)

Joan, I have an idea for a post...now put your thinking cap on.....

An update on the DECK PROJECT

Joan said...

Pea: So what was your favorite course at the gala dinner? And sadly they must have overlooked you when they took those photos.

Pam: Yikes...heads will roll because Sanjaya was left off the guest list!

Meno: I'd be satisfied with even half a brilliant post at this point!

Ralph: I bet you'd look like one handsome dude in your tux!

Joan said...

Patti: I guess we crossed again when commenting and responding! I've been saving the followup on the deck project until I have something concrete to report but I might have to write something this week if I'm desperate.

My brain fries a lot...when you see a comic strip, I am brain dead...then the comic helps a bit. But, I think everyone gets that way. I actually think the Queen looks pretty good for 81.... GW managed to screw up and there was only one red dress I heard on the news. She is a Corgi and horse fan. Golf? I don't think so...and football, umm, no. I can't see her popping peanuts and downing a beer with the boys.

Joan said...

Rosemary: So...that's why I see lots of comic strips on people's blogs...I feel soooo much better. And I agree the Queen looks darn fine for 81...crazy hats and all.

The blahs seem to be going around right now. No worries.

you came up with something good anyway.

I was thinking that I'm going to have to post all my microwave recipes as everyone says they only use theirs for reheating stuff.

Michele said...

Well Joan, the fact that you posted something in actual written form was incredible; my hat is off to you. When I get in one of those moods, I usually take the cowards way out by putting on a silly 'ole cartoon or a goofy picture.
As far as giving any comment to sports related questions... oh dear... I'm going to have to sit this one out... Have a wonderful day!

you know what a crush I had on Prince Phillip when I was 5 and they visited Montreal. Only your father could replace that feeling when I first saw him 2 years later.

We all know my love for Dad waaaay outlived my crush on Price Philip.

Joan said...

Renee: I'm beginning to think that the change in weather has somehow affected all our brains. I like your microwave recipe idea...I could certainly use some!

Michele: I've been going through my treasure trove of comic strips since I've learned that's a blogger's way of posting something when nothing comes to mind! I'll be ready for the next round of Blogging Blahs. :~)

Only oldest; We seem to have cross-commented and replied. I'm glad to read that you came to your senses and gave up your crush on the Prince...what a pill!!!
