"No Muss No Fuss" Eggs

Now here’s a surprise…I’m actually going to post a recipe. Okay…those of you who know my “culinary skills” can stop laughing. This recipe was emailed to me by a friend nearly two years ago. Something told me to keep it for future use so I archived it. Sure enough, last week I thought about it as we were planning our Mother’s Day brunch at our family friend’s home.

One of the problems with making omelets is that you make them one at a time so people are always eating in shifts. We were looking for some way to have all the omelets ready at the same time so we could sit down as a group. That’s when I remembered this recipe. It’s really easy to prepare and I thought it would be a fun “activity” for us to do. It allows everyone to choose their own ingredients and the clean-up is fast and easy. So without further ado…

Easy Omelet

1. Have each guest write their name on a quart-size freezer bag with permanent marker.
2. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into each bag (not more than two) and shake the bag.
3. Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.
4. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and then shakes and kneads the bag to mix all the ingredients together.
5. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
6. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes.
7. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.
8. Open the bags and the omelets will easily roll out.

This turned out to be a really fun activity and our hostess insists we should make it an annual event. So have fun, be creative and bon appetit.

My cousin e-mailed me that recipe a couple of years ago but I was afaid to try it until I heard of someone else that had. I guess it is safe to try now!

cool idea! And it makes your omlettes lower fat as you didn't have to grease a pan to cook them. I've never had a breakfast or brunch party before.

DD & her friends want cereal or pancakes.

Susie: It was great...we all lined up to spoon in the various ingredients and then Hubby served as bag boiler extraordinaire.

Empress bee: Admittedly the omelets were not the most beautifully formed but they sure did taste good. Oh...and, as usual, I forgot the camera yesterday.
