And the Winner Is…

Hubby and I just got back from a Golf Expo and we’ve now settled in at home waiting for the big show tonight. I love watching the Oscars pre-show to see how the women are dressed and I have to say that, in the past few years, the level of elegance has certainly improved. The show itself never holds much interest for me since I never see any of the nominated films but, this year, I am looking forward to seeing Ellen DeGeneres as the host so I will pay attention. Paying attention is hard for me especially when it comes to acceptance speeches…yawn. I heard that the New York Daily News was reporting that Delta Airlines is offering two free tickets to all the winners who manage to keep their speeches within the 45 second time limit. Somehow I think Delta’s financial future is safe…I don’t see them losing a whole lot of money on free tickets tonight.

This brings me to my very own experience at the Oscars show. Yes…I’ve actually attended an Academy Awards show. In March 2000, my friend’s daughter was working for the Academy and was able to secure two tickets to the show. Leaving Hubby at home, my friend and I arrived at the Shrine Auditorium (the site that year) and actually got to walk the red carpet. It was quite exciting although I was so disappointed no one asked me about my dress…I wanted to tell the world about my off-the-rack little black number which I'd purchased only days before for a startling $27 but, alas, Joan Rivers must have missed me in the crowd of stars. Anyway, our seats were on the main floor near an aisle so we got to see all the stars up close and personal. It was truly a night to remember and, when it was over and I returned home, I immediately got out my “Things To Do In My Life” list and checked off “Attend the Academy Awards."

You've been to TWO Beatles concerts??? WAH! I've only been to one Paul McCartney concert...it was way cool though. I've also been in Two Superbowl half-time shows (one you never saw!)
I'm impressed that you went to the Academy Awards...although I've got no desire to ever do that myself. Wendy Wings was there last year. I wonder what she's doing tonight.

Lynn: It's obviously who you know that gets you where you want...and I guess I've been very lucky to have known the "right" people.

Meno: Considering the length of the show, I should have had my laptop out. The last 4 hours have been the most unproductive in my life. :-)

Renee: Of all the things I've ever been to, nothing will ever top the Beatles concerts. They were truly historic. I am, however, impressed that you've actually been in 2 Super Bowl half-time shows...that's pretty amazing!!!

Now I'm kind of curious. What else do you have on your "Things To Do In My Life" list? Nice of bragging rights you have there, Joan!

re: super bowl half time shows. I lived in Tampa and both times that the super bowl has been at Tampa Stadium, Disney has put on the show. Both times they used kids from the local high schools for the cast. The first time I was a kid the second time I got to do it because my younger brother was a kid and needed a ride. The second time (during Operation Desert Storm) NBC decided to show up-to-date coverage of the war instead of our show which was dedicated to the troops. There wasn't any news to report. *sigh*
But Disney gave us free tickets to their parks for our payment.

re: weddings they don't happen often enough in our family for me to remember what a pain they can be.

Most boring 3 1/2 hours out of the 4. Only the last half hour when the top honors were announced was decent. I also thought Ellen vacuuming was of of the best spots and showed her opinion of the show too.

Good for Helen Mirren on thanking Queen Elizabeth for the chance to play her. Better than Julia Roberts forgetting to thank Erin Brockovich.

Patches: There are lots of things on my "Things To Do" list (riding on a parade float is one) and I'm always adding things to the list when I hear of someone doing something really cool.

Renee: OK...so now I've added "Appear in a Super Bowl Half-time Show" to my list of "Things To Do In My Life." It sounds like lots of fun.

Moose buyer: I just heard on the news that this year's Oscars show producer also produced the longest Oscars show ever (a few years ago). That probably explains a lot.

Wow! You have done some really cool things! I bet you looked just as nice in the $27.00 off the rack dress as the others in all their finery. Shame on Joan Rivers for missing you!
